This is a very early image of the moon noise temperature as a transition measurement. The measurement has been made with a Dicke radiometer prototype of mine that had a -3 dB IF BW of about 5 MHz. The slight roughness of the plot is due to the light, moving overcast causing variation of noise temperaure. The noise temperature of the moon at 11 GHz is about 180 K and varies with lunar phase. The antenna used was a 1.3 m TVRO dish. See block diagram ( 10 kb ) and principle of cold reference waveguide load made with a piece of waveguide and absorptive rubber here ( 5 kb ).
