Some notes on the 10 GHz receiver construction competion:

-
here is a video of the VUSHF2008 Nordic Microwave Meeting building competition 10 GHz Receiver Reference Design (12.3 Mb)
-
I built this in about 1. 5 hours using a wok pan lid, matchbox and 1N21C (4 GHz !) diode, so a team should manage it easily...
-
contestants formed four country teams and were given wok pan lids, tape, strips of plastic and wood, miscellaneous components and all sorts of other junkbox "stuff"
-
the objective was to build and operate a linearly polarized 10 GHz receiver with AM detection
-
this receiver was then to be used to locate two hidden microwave transmitters and to define their polarisation
-
one was hidden in a box, the second in a gutter, radiating down the spout - this was a real pain to find ;-)
-
this time the Danish team was a clear winner, first to give a complete report of fox locations and polarisations
